A New Friend

Toni Scott is known for his past work illustrating The Chargimals: a series of quirky characters representing different health conditions and helping to to normalize discussion about chronic ilnesses.

In this illustration, Toni explains, “Gia (Fibromyalgia) and Mya (ME/CFS) are excitedly greeting their new friend, Connor (Long Covid).” Over the past three years, millions of people joined the chronic illness community due to Long Covid, which develops in approximately 10-20% of Covid cases. Affecting both adults and children, including people with mild or asymptomatic cases, several preliminary studies suggest that around half of Long Covid patients meet the criteria for ME/CFS.

Toni Scott (he/him) is a non-binary illustrator from Vancouver, BC. He has been living with ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia since 2019. He was the illustrator for the Chargimals and through them has worked to bring education and advocacy to the disability and chronic illness community for three years. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Toni has been working as a freelance illustrator and lives with his Husky mix, Koda.
